2023 brings with it a wonderful step toward inclusion in Pakistan.
President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the “Access to Media (Deaf) Persons Act.” This means that all TV channels, including news and entertainment, will now have sign language interpretation for Deaf persons.
The Act also provides that after one year of the commencement of the Act, no TV channels or any other broadcast media will be allowed to broadcast any program without PSL interpreters. President Dr. Arif Alvi also addressed the growing sense of alienation among deaf persons who find it difficult to watch dramas and stay updated on the news on TV channels. Hence, this is a huge win for the deaf community as well as all of us working towards an inclusive Pakistan.
